Employees actually log in, which surprised me

Managers approve leave from their phones now, which was the whole point. Workplace skills plan and annual training report in SETA format. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. Worth the migration effort, which is not something I say often.

What works

Employment equity reporting built into the data model. Reporting on headcount and turnover is available without asking IT. The employee file holds everything in one place with proper permissions.

What does not

Data is hosted offshore, which our information officer had to sign off.

Support hours never overlap with ours

The leave rules never matched the BCEA properly and we gave up correcting them. What surprised me was that the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. It has cost us more time than it has saved. It may suit a simpler business than ours.

What works

The employee database itself is fine.

What does not

Support hours do not overlap with our working day. Leave rules never matched South African requirements. The interface is dated and slow.

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. BCEA leave correct with no configuration. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. Worth the migration effort, which is not something I say often.

It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. It is a reasonable choice, provided you know what it does not do.
