Employees actually log in, which surprised me

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. Data protection controls built for GDPR, which POPIA closely follows. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. If you are weighing it up, do the trial with your own data and you will see it.

What works

Document and approval workflows with a full audit trail. The employee file holds everything in one place with proper permissions. Leave requests and approvals happen on the phone without training.

What does not

Recruitment is a separate module at a separate price.

Employees actually log in, which surprised me

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Granular permissions that properly restrict special personal information. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. Two years in and nobody has suggested we look at alternatives.

What works

Data protection controls built for GDPR, which POPIA closely follows. Reporting on headcount and turnover is available without asking IT. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork.

What does not

Reporting is adequate rather than strong.

Used for 2 to 5 years

Solid core, disappointing reporting

It has reduced admin, just not as much as the demo suggested. Granular permissions that properly restrict special personal information. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. Good value, with some real rough edges.

What works

Strong multi entity handling for groups. Leave management works reliably.

What does not

There is no local payroll integration. Performance management is basic.

Leave requests left email and never came back

Managers approve leave from their phones now, which was the whole point. Document and approval workflows with a full audit trail. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. Two years in and nobody has suggested we look at alternatives.

No real understanding of South African labour law

The leave rules never matched the BCEA properly and we gave up correcting them. For context, the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. It may suit a simpler business than ours.

What works

Document storage works.

What does not

Support hours do not overlap with our working day. Leave rules never matched South African requirements. The interface is dated and slow.

Works, but BCEA leave needed configuring

The configuration took longer than promised, and it works well now. Data protection controls built for GDPR, which POPIA closely follows. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. I would shortlist it, not necessarily pick it.

Our employment equity return took hours, not weeks

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. Document and approval workflows with a full audit trail. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. It is not perfect, and it is the right choice for us.

No real understanding of South African labour law

It was clearly built for a different labour market. What surprised me was that the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. It may suit a simpler business than ours.

What works

The employee database itself is fine.

What does not

Leave rules never matched South African requirements. Support hours do not overlap with our working day. The interface is dated and slow.
