No real understanding of South African labour law

It was clearly built for a different labour market. For context, the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. It may suit a simpler business than ours.

What works

Document storage works.

What does not

Support hours do not overlap with our working day. The interface is dated and slow. Leave rules never matched South African requirements.

Leave requests left email and never came back

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Health and safety compliance handled as part of the relationship. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. I would recommend it to a business of our size without hesitation.

What works

Health and safety compliance handled as part of the relationship. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork. Document storage with e signature removed a printing step entirely.

What does not

Data is hosted offshore, which our information officer had to sign off.

Employees actually log in, which surprised me

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. Employment equity plans built to survive an inspection. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. Worth the migration effort, which is not something I say often.

Skills development and B-BBEE scorecard support. The employee file holds everything in one place with proper permissions. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork.

What does not

Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. If you are weighing it up, do the trial with your own data and you will see it.

Industrial relations specialists who will attend the CCMA with you. Reporting on headcount and turnover is available without asking IT. Leave requests and approvals happen on the phone without training.

What does not

Recruitment is a separate module at a separate price.

Adoption took longer than the vendor suggested

It has reduced admin, just not as much as the demo suggested. Health and safety compliance handled as part of the relationship. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. I would shortlist it, not necessarily pick it.
