Works, but BCEA leave needed configuring

It has reduced admin, just not as much as the demo suggested. Genuinely easy for line managers to use without training. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. It is a reasonable choice, provided you know what it does not do.

What works

Genuinely easy for line managers to use without training. The employee record is well organised.

What does not

The mobile experience is weaker than the desktop. BCEA leave had to be configured rather than selected.

The audit trail saved us at a CCMA hearing

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Leave accrual that follows BCEA rather than a US default. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. Worth the migration effort, which is not something I say often.

What works

Genuinely easy for line managers to use without training. Leave requests and approvals happen on the phone without training. The employee file holds everything in one place with proper permissions.

What does not

Recruitment is a separate module at a separate price.

Managers use it without being chased

Managers approve leave from their phones now, which was the whole point. Clean mobile app for leave requests and approvals. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. Two years in and nobody has suggested we look at alternatives.

What works

Leave accrual that follows BCEA rather than a US default. The employee file holds everything in one place with proper permissions. Document storage with e signature removed a printing step entirely.

What does not

Data is hosted offshore, which our information officer had to sign off.

Managers use it without being chased

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. Modular pricing, so you pay only for what you switch on. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. It is not perfect, and it is the right choice for us.

Employees actually log in, which surprised me

What works

Genuinely easy for line managers to use without training. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork. Document storage with e signature removed a printing step entirely.

Works, but BCEA leave needed configuring

The configuration took longer than promised, and it works well now. Modular pricing, so you pay only for what you switch on. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. Fine for our needs. Test it properly against your own requirements.

What works

Genuinely easy for line managers to use without training. The employee record is well organised.

What does not

There is no local payroll integration. Performance management is basic.

Onboarding admin dropped by half

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. Genuinely easy for line managers to use without training. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. If you are weighing it up, do the trial with your own data and you will see it.

What works

Modular pricing, so you pay only for what you switch on. Leave requests and approvals happen on the phone without training. The employee file holds everything in one place with proper permissions.

What does not

Reporting is adequate rather than strong.

We went back to spreadsheets after nine months

It was clearly built for a different labour market. What surprised me was that the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. We moved to an alternative and the difference was immediate.

What works

Document storage works.

What does not

Leave rules never matched South African requirements. Support hours do not overlap with our working day. The interface is dated and slow.
