Not built for a South African VAT vendor

We committed to this on a recommendation and I regret not testing it properly first. In practice, the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. It may suit a simpler business than ours.

What works

It is inexpensive.

What does not

Support responses were slow and generic. Migration lost historical detail we needed for the audit. Bank feed failures went unresolved for weeks.

VAT season stopped being a crisis

After two years I can say the reconciliation time saving is real and it is significant. Clean, uncluttered interface. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. If you are weighing it up, do the trial with your own data and you will see it.

What works

No user limit, ever. VAT201 figures come out right without a manual working paper. Invoices go out looking professional with no design work.

What does not

Inventory is too basic for a stock heavy business.

Finally a ledger our accountant does not complain about

We moved across from a desktop package eighteen months ago and I would not go back. No user limit, ever. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. Two years in and nobody has suggested we look at alternatives.

What works

Unlimited invoices on the free plan. Invoices go out looking professional with no design work. The audit trail has answered every query our auditors raised.

What does not

The interface has not aged well.

The bank feed problems never got fixed

I have spent more time working around this than working in it. Where it earns its keep is that the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. I would look elsewhere unless price is the only consideration.

Fine for us, would not recommend for stock heavy businesses

It does what we need and I have no strong feelings about it either way. A genuine double entry ledger at no cost. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. Fine for our needs. Test it properly against your own requirements.

What does not

Inventory cannot handle multiple warehouses. There is no direct submission to eFiling, so the return is captured by hand.
