Onboarding admin dropped by half

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Skills development and B-BBEE scorecard support. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. I would recommend it to a business of our size without hesitation.

Skills development and B-BBEE scorecard support. Leave requests and approvals happen on the phone without training. Reporting on headcount and turnover is available without asking IT.

What does not

Data is hosted offshore, which our information officer had to sign off.

We went back to spreadsheets after nine months

It was clearly built for a different labour market. The honest position is that the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. It has cost us more time than it has saved. Test it hard during the trial with real volume before committing.

What does not

The interface is dated and slow. Leave rules never matched South African requirements. Support hours do not overlap with our working day.

Works, but BCEA leave needed configuring

Solid for the core, but we still keep a spreadsheet for the reporting we actually need. Industrial relations specialists who will attend the CCMA with you. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. Good value, with some real rough edges.

What works

Health and safety compliance handled as part of the relationship. The employee record is well organised.

What does not

The mobile experience is weaker than the desktop. There is no local payroll integration.

No real understanding of South African labour law

The leave rules never matched the BCEA properly and we gave up correcting them. The thing worth knowing is that the parts we were sold on never worked the way they were demonstrated. The gaps are the kind that create work rather than save it. It may suit a simpler business than ours.
